Volkswagen Group Rus to Add Capacity in the Kaluga Region

On June 4, at the site of the XXIV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), an agreement of intent was signed between the Kaluga Region and Volkswagen Group Rus. The document was signed by the head of the region Vladislav Shapsha and General Director of Volkswagen Group Rus Stefan Mecha.

Under the agreement, Volkswagen Group Rus intends to modernize and add the capacity of an internal combustion engine plant in the Kaluga Region to produce a second 1.4 TSI engine in 2024. Investment in the project is 6 billion rubles. 80 positions will be created.

The engines currently produced in the Kaluga Region are compatible with three Russian-made models most popular with customers– Volkswagen Polo, Škoda Rapid and Škoda Octavia. The Kaluga plant produces 1.6 MPI gasoline engines of the EA211 series in two modifications– with a capacity of 90 hp and 110 hp.

Engines are supplied not only to the local market, but to production sites around the world. Thanks to a smoothly operating supply chain, Russian-made engines are exported to Germany, Mexico, Spain, Poland and other countries.

Let us recall that the Volkswagen Group Rus plant is located in the Grabtsevo Industrial Park. There is an automotive manufacturing and an engine plant on the territory of the enterprise.
